Mother of 9 Speaks Out

I’m a homeschool mother to 9 children and we live directly on the Brazos River in Pecan Plantation. When we moved here, I thought we had found our perfect slice of heaven. My children play in the Brazos river every day and we spend countless hours in our backyard enjoying the quiet beauty Texas has to offer. My husband and I have poured our savings into our property as we had plans on living here for many years. Supporting a family of 11 in this economy is no easy feat but we were comforted knowing we were upping our home value as well as turning our property into a perfect haven for our young children to spend their childhood in.

But since the leaves have fallen on our property this month, we now hear the Wolf Hollow Bitcoin mine throughout the day, even through closed windows and it has taken away the beautiful nature sounds of our yard. While we sit and play outside we are accompanied with a loud humming sound which is disheartening and unnatural.

So you can understand my complete and total horror of finding out about the Pacifico Powerplant and Fort Spunky data center planned to go in directly across the river from our house. I can’t put into words how sickened I am about this. You don’t have to research for long to see that these centers have immense negative effects on their surroundings. Our home value will undoubtably drop as we will be so close to this monstrosity and if we thought the noise from Wolf Hollow was bad right now, this will be so much worse.

We heard from Mitchell Bend residents two days ago who stated how the low frequency sounds emitted will affect our health immensely, from seizures, troubled sleep, bone density issues, to many other health problems, not to mention the toxicity that will leach into the Brazos River that my children play in daily. I’m also very concerned about our air quality if these powerplants and data centers are built and of course their unrelenting noise.

As someone who has fled Canada to find safety and justice in rural Texas, I am saddened that this is even a fight I must engage in. As a Canadian, I am well accustomed to corruption inflicted upon the common man and I had hoped I had escaped that but alas here I am having to fight even harder for my family’s finances, physical wellbeing, and home.

It is truly beyond my comprehension that our lives could be turned upside down by these powerplants and data centers without even a discussion regarding compensation for our loss. If the Pacifico powerplant and its accompanying data centers are built it will be imperative for us to pack up and leave for our children’s health but how will we be able to do that if we won’t even be able to sell our home for its fair value? Think of the bind this is putting us and many others in. Mitchell Bend resident’s home values have tanked, this is fact and as a Christian, I cannot in good conscience sell our home to an unsuspecting family right now, knowing what is planned for across the river.

I implore you commissioners to find a way to use sub section K to our advantage in shutting these powerplants and data centers down. Hood County does not need their tantalizing tax dollars. What could that money possibly do for us while the centers drive us from our homes and rob us of our health? Please join with me in fighting to keep AI data centers and powerplants out of Hood County, there are so many other industries we can attract here that are less harmful. I want to keep Hood County clean and pristine, I want to keep my home value fair, I want to keep my nature surroundings just that, I want to keep the Historic Brazos river free from toxicity, but above all else I want to keep my children safe from physical harm. Their names are Landyn, Seth, June, Lily, Winslett, Boaz, Prairie, Lowynn, and our youngest son was born 2 months ago and his name is Judge Brazos. We named him that before we knew anything about this issue.

I take comfort from this passage in the bible, The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them. He delivers them from their troubles” Psalm 34

I truly believe our family will be delivered from these data center horrors, one way or the other, but I don’t want to be delivered by fleeing from our home, I want to be delivered by having chosen the right county to live in with the right commissioners who fought for their residents. I appreciate all the hard work you put into your work and trust you will take this issue incredibly seriously.
